Indian Edible Oil Industry in a Nutshell

Indian edible oil industry has grown at the CAGR of 4.4 % over the period 2001-2011.
With rising income and living standard, per capita edible oil consumption in India is 13 kg. /year against the global average of 24 kg. /year.
Demand and supply gap is huge and India imports almost 50% of its consumption. India happens to be largest importer of edible oil and third largest consumer.

Palm oil is the most consumed edible oil in India followed by soya oil and mustard oil.
Choice of edible oil varies from region to region, in North and East region mustard and rapeseed oil is readily used while groundnut and coconut oil dominates in south region and groundnut oil is commonly used in west region.
